Open letter on the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2008

VoteMoney.jpgOppose the undemocratic move of government to more than double the security deposit for candidates in elections through an amendment to the Representation of Peoples Act. The government has proposed that the security deposit for candidates for general category seats for the Lok Sabha be raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. India is supposed to be a democracy wherein every citizen has the right to elect and be elected... Any citizen should be able to stand in elections with a token deposit that he or she can afford.

Lok Raj Sangathan to celebrate centenary of International Women’s Day in a big way

People’s Consultations on the Proposed Bill against Communal Violence

This is our great democracy!

100207-LRS Delhi Conf 015.jpgUnless we the people have political power in our hands and control over our resources and decisions, this situation will not change

"There is much talk of high growth rate being achieved. If this meant progress then this should reflect in the improvement of conditions for all. But we see that conditions of the vast majority of toiling people is going from bad to worse, while that of a handful of rich and powerful is getting better and better, so now they are even global players. This brings us to the issue of who has political power, who controls the means of production and the wealth and resources of this country. Unless we the people have political power in our hands and control over our resources and decisions, this situation will not change . . (extract from concluding remarks to the Delhi Regional Convention, by the Secretary, Prakash Rao, LRS)"

Whither Democracy; Whither Good Governance?

RIP-aa.jpg“RIP  Here lies the AAM AADAMI.”  The Leaders second in command assures the Leader who was taken aback: “Don’t worry, sir!  We will exhume him just before the Next Elections, Sir!”  Such is the state of affairs to which democracy has been reduced in this country!

After every Election, the members of the winning parties strut about, proclaiming how fortunate the people are in having elected them and given them the “mandate” to govern according to their perception of what is good for the people which, in intent and practice, means their families, their party and last, the country and the people.
