Workers including of the Viva Global Factory, including women were brutally beaten up with hockey sticks and lathis by goons called in by the Management of Viva Global, the Gurgaon based sweatshop apparel house. The incident happened this morning between 9:30 and 10:00 AM when workers were to enter the premises of the Factory, as part of a tripartite agreement between the Management of Viva Global, the Labour Department and the Garment and Allied Workers Union (GAWU).

Days before 26th January 2010, the motormen had given a notice about a one day strike. This was done in accordance with the laws of the country. At that time, the government had promised that it would immediately start discussion on the demands of the motormen. This was why the motormen called off their strike on 26th January.

In our country, working people are supposed to slog no matter what & it is their “Essential duty” which Government is bound to ensure. While at the same time big capitalist companies and corporations & big shot officials and Netas are supposed to mint money & it is their “essential right” which Government is bound to ensure.
