Women

India is said to be the largest democracy in the world, but the Indian people do not enjoy the right to set the course for Indian society and shape its destiny.

The majority of Indian people have neither secure livelihood nor the power to do anything about their miserable conditions of life. They are not treated as human beings. They are humiliated and oppressed on the basis of caste, gender, class, race, religion and nationality.

LRS interviewed several women activists of Purogami Mahila Sangathan who had prepared for and participated in the March 8 rally, in which thousands of women and men participated. Here is the report as narrated by them.

On the 14th of March, as part of the celebrations of the Centenary of International Women’s Day, the Mumbai Committee of Lok Raj Sangathan organized a discussion at Marathi Granth Sangrahalay, Dadar, on the important question of “What is the way forward for women’s emancipation?”

On the 8th of March 2010, Purogami Mahila Sangathan participated in a massive rally along with various women's groups and oragnisations of the Centenary Committee of the International Women's Day. Lok Raj Sangathan was there to cover the event. We salute the spirit and the struggle of the women world over!
